Many day spas and resort spas offer treatments designed to fight and reduce cellulite. These anti cellulite treatments consist of body wraps, body scrubs, massages and more. Some spas also sell cellulite reducing creams and other products that are designed to help you fight cellulite at home. Before we discuss the effectiveness of these treatments it is important to first understand what cellulite really is and what causes it.

Cellulite is simply adipose tissue (fat) that has formed into dimples or pockets that give cellulite its characteristic appearance. Fat is essential for the human body and is a necessary nutrient is all diets. Fat protects internal organs, acts as storage of energy, insulates the body, and much more. However, in many people, especially women, fat deposits in certain parts of the body turn into cellulite that shows through the skin in an undesirable manor. The exact cause of cellulite is not known, however, it is widely accepted that cellulite is a natural occurrence and is not the result of any medical disorder.

There is no known ‘cure’ for cellulite and the positive affects of spa wraps, creams, and massages in fighting cellulite has not been proven in any credible clinical studies. However, that does not mean that these treatments are ineffective. The lack of a clinical study only indicates that no one has spent the thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars necessary to produce a study. Many natural cures and remedies are ‘unproven’ in a strict clinical sense, but this does not mean that they to not work.

Several spa treatments have been shown to reduce cellulite including seaweed wraps, coffee scrubs, and vigorous massage. Massage can break up cellulite deposits and help the body redistribute the fat cells in a more appealing manor. This is especially true with a relatively deep and vigorous massage such as a lomi lomi massage.

Often the massage is performed with a cellulite fighting essential oil containing a mixture that includes black pepper among other ingredients. Seaweed wraps and coffee scrubs also have been shown to stimulate reactions in the body that breakdown cellulite. When the body wrap or scrub is combined with a massage, the cellulite fighting affects can be more pronounced.

Massage therapy and spa treatments will not remove your cellulite; however, they may assist you in your fight to do so. By combining your cellulite busting spa treatment with proper diet and exercise it even more likely that you will see a noticeable affect.
