Breast massage by an appropriately trained massage therapist can be an excellent addition to your overall breast care plan.  Breast massage has been shown to reduce breast pain for many women and the effects of breast massage on the lymphatic and circulatory systems of the breasts increase the overall health of the breast tissue.  Women with breast augmentation get breast massage to help with the healing process and women concerned about breast cancer get breast massage to enhance the removal of accumulated toxins in the breast.  Women who experience general breast pain can find relief with breast massage.

The purpose of breast massage is normally to increase lymphatic flow in the breast.  Your lymphatic system is part of your immune system and is responsible for removing toxins from your body.  Breasts have a significant amount of lymphatic vessels, however, the vessels are sometimes blocked or restricted.  This can occur for many reasons including wearing tight clothes and bras.  By performing a lymphatic drainage massage on the breasts, the therapist will attempt to release any blockages and increase healthy lymphatic and circulatory flow in the area.

Breast massage only takes about 10 minutes and is often performed as part of full body lymphatic drainage massage.  In the state of Arizona breast massage may be performed by licensed massage therapists, however, the therapist is required to have the client sign an informed consent form authorizing the procedure.  If the client is a minor a parent must sign the consent from and must outline the reason(s) for the procedure.  Laws will vary from state to state.

Women can also perform breast massage on themselves as part of their home breast care.  A doctor or medical massage therapist should be able to explain the procedure.  There are also many articles, videos, and pictures on the Internet explaining the technique.

If you would like to try a breast massage be sure to ask the spa or therapist in advance if they perform breast massage.  Most therapists are not trained in this so you may need to spend some time searching for a therapist.  When using to Internet to search for a therapist trained in the procedure try searching for lymphatic drainage massage, manual lymphatic drainage, or medical massage.
